My intention with this blog is to fuse just enough of my personal interests, tastes, thoughts, and opinions with a more professionally oriented perspective on the world to make it interesting and compelling for passers-by and any readers who want to return once and again. Think of it as an experiment in synthesizing out of my various online personas–viz., my LinkedIn profile, Twitter activity, Facebook representations–a new, and hopefully not completely unreconciled cocktail of my personality and pursuits. I’ve often been troubled by the complexity of the online world and the need to be ever-so-careful about what you say, to whom, and in what context. It gets to the point that we end up having to create artificial barriers and concomitant splits in our personalities in order to manage it all. I’d like to see if there just might be more of a middle way–one that integrates rather than disintegrates us.

I know that Zuckerberg has been big on mandating that there can be only one Facebook profile for an individual, to the point that colleagues of mine, who have attempted to set up professional FB accounts for professional pursuits and connections only, have been shut down by The Great Facebook Arbiter of Communal Wholeness. I kinda get the need for both, and it may very well be a false choice we’re being given, that we have to choose between a monolithic online persona or multiple, schizoid personalities. So, I’d like to see if I can marry the lighter side of my life with the more serious one and come up with something new, and it seemed that an integrated blog as I intend for this one to be may be a place to start.
